Amertha Bhavani Goes to Czech Republic, Day 2 (Aug 15, 2013) - Sumperk
Use your free time in a new place wisely. And that’s what I am doing today. We had breakfast at the hostel first. Before our guide joined, we took a walk and stopped at the nearest petrol station because we found wi-fi there since there was no wi-fi at the hostel and we hadn’t bought any SIM card. We found a big supermarket called Klaufland. I wanted to go inside but unfortunately I brought a camera which is not allowed inside. Our guide came, and led us to Centrum, the city central. His name is Kuba. He has black and white spiky hair at the front. His style is a bit grunge and punk. And in terms of English ability, his English isn’t very good (sorry Kuba if you read this). This is not good for a Liaison Officer because he is dealing with people who don’t speak Czech language. We often had some difficulties communicating with him because either he didn’t know what English words he wanted to say or he didn’t understand us. He’s a good person, though.
We hadn’t explored the city at all since we came here. So while we were walking to Centrum, we took a lot of pictures along the road. We didn't meet a lot of people. Things changed when we arrived at Centrum. It really is the city central where you can find anything. This area is different from any other area in Šumperk (as if I had explored the whole Šumperk). There are cafés, restaurants, drugstores, and shops. It is crowded so I thought this is a place where all people of Šumperk go when they are looking for entertainment. When we passed, people looked at us. Maybe because this city is small, tourists rarely go here, our looks are different and we were walking in group.

We were taken to the money changer because we hadn’t had any Czech Koruna (CZK) yet. After we got our money, it’s time to spend it! Haha. First important thing to buy is SIM card. Kuba was not helpful at all because of his bad English, so we tried to find by ourselves. Me and kak Marissa were looking for it together. It turned out to be our own adventure. Language barrier is the main problem.
First, we visited T-Mobile. A young woman assisted us. Her English wasn’t too good but quite helpful. After struggling not-so-hard with her, we decided to look for another card. Now we were looking for O2 (another SIM card). A guy was looking at us and he realized that we were confused so he asked us if we needed help. He understands English well. Thanks to him, we found the O2 store. Here, we took a queue ticket. Thank God the guy who assisted us is good in English, much better than Kuba! I could say he is fluent. Because O2 is a bit more expensive, we went back to T-Mobile, met our friends and they bought the last stocks of the SIM card we were asking for! Me and kak Marissa were freaking out! After considering everything, we went back to O2. Another challenge occurred. That guy who assisted us and the only person in that store who is good in English was having a break somewhere. Oh God. Inhale… Exhale… The other woman staff who is very nice, trying to explain everything as best as she could said the guy would be back at particular time I forgot. So we walked around again and went back settling everything. Finally we got SIM card for our phones after challenges we had to go through :”). It was a fun experience, though.
This is actually my first spending before the SIM card |
Actually, we got lunch from the hostel, but some of us wanted to try the restaurants here. We found an interesting and crowded place. As the bill came, we realized that eating here is actually cheap, same like you’re eating out in Jakarta. Despite the time wasted on finding SIM cards, we still had enough time to walk around. We went further and found some stands which sold interesting food and souvenirs. Two young boys approached us and they asked for autographs and photos. I felt like a celebrity! Because we would have our first performance the next day, we went back to the hostel to rehearse.

I think these guys had an assignment or something, because after asking for our pictures and autographs, they seemed to submit the paper with our autographs somewhere.
Frgal Cake. It has pizza shape but this taste sweet |
Dinner. Doesn't look so appetizing. Well, that chicken and sauce actually had some taste but the bread itself taste plain so you have to eat them together |
