Long Weekend in Jogja - Day 2 (May 14, 2015) - Part 1

by - 5:50 PM

Berdasarkan pengalaman sih emang misanya tergolong cepet. Sesuai prediksi, 1 jam  kemudian misa selesai.

Starting the second day, which was happened to be Ascension Day, we joined the mass at Gereja St. Antonius Kota Baru at 8.30am. This is my second or third time here. What makes the church interesting is the people on the wall paintings, which tells about New Testament, are drawn wearing Javanese traditional clothing.

After the mass we went to Lokal Hotel at Jl. Jembatan Merah by TransJogja. We had to reach Gejayan, the closest terminal. We walked from there. The distance is not too close by walking, the heat made it worse. It was beyond my expectation that this current hip hotel location is a bit hidden. Just like the street name, you will pass red bridge (jembatan merah) and Universitas Mercu Buana, you are nearly there. In terms of location for an accommodation, I would not recommend this hotel because there are no attractions nearby.
Lokal Hotel also owns a restaurant. I love the ambience since there weren't many people although it's holiday. Lokal uses many Kawung (one of Indonesia's batik pattern) on its designs. The place is convenient for meeting and working on assignments.

Untuk menu, Lokal menyediakan makanan Indonesia sama Western. Harganya terjangkau untuk ukuran restoran kayak gini. Murah standar Jakarta, agak mahal standar Jogja. Super mengecewakan! Pancakenya tebel banget jadi bagian dalem kurang mateng dan bikin rasanya jadi agak aneh.

For the menu, Lokal provides Indonesian and Western food. The price is quite reasonable. I ordered Lime Mojito while Ayu had Guava Juice because we were looking for something refreshing. Since we already had breakfast at the guest house and we wanted to have big lunch after this, I just had waffle. The waffle was not bad, the vanilla ice cream and sour strawberry/raspberry sauce were good either. Ayu ordered pancake and it turned out very disappointing. It was very thick which made the inner dough was undercooked and taste so weird.

From Lokal, we moved to Museum Affandi at Jl. Laksda Adisucipto 167 by TransJogja. The museum is the house of a painter, Affandi as well as his gallery. Based on the information from the website, the museum is closed on national holiday, but I called and they said it was opened that day! As I arrived, I bought the entrance ticket. Domestic guests fee is Rp20.000 while foreigners is Rp50.000. The fee is included free soft drink/ice cream. Since I bring camera, there is Rp20.000 additional charge, for handphone camera is Rp10.000.
This is my second time here. For me who is not really an art enthusiast, I quite enjoyed being here. There are 3 galleries that could be explored. In Gallery 1, which I like the most because of the bright coloured walls, we can see Affandi's paintings from his early until late years. Besides paintings, here we could also see statues, car and bicycle collections, and some old stuff Affandi used.

Gallery 2 is the exhibition for Affandi's painting collection that are for sale and also for the works of other artists. The gallery is a two-storey. The first floor is for exhibition while the second floor is for storage. The second floor is restricted for visitors.

Galeri III menampilkan koleksi lukisan keluarga Affandi.

Gallery III displays the works of Affandi's family. It was being renovated on my first visit and I feel it became more spacious now. In this gallery visitors can watch documentary video of Affandi. He talked in English and the subtitle is in Dutch.

Not only gallery but the house of Affandi is also interesting to see since it has unique concept. The most interesting part is his private bedroom on the second floor. The ground floor, which was used to be guest room and garage, is now used for Cafe Loteng, the place where visitors can enjoy their free soft drink/ice cream while looking at souvenirs sold. There is also a gerobak (traditional cart) which was modified as room with kitchen and restroom. Now the gerobak is functioned as musholla (praying room).
